The Pen Pals

not in a tree but i’d like to think it could be. its made out of trees so that counts. I’ve been drawing things in water a lot lately. I’m not sure why—i think i like thinking of them as islands…or it could just be that i love being near the water.

a sliding finish for this week’s theme Make Believe. Lately I’m super into anything Nordic. The folklore especially make me so happy. This is something I started awhile ago as an after work doodle and now seemed like a great time to finish it.

hi all! As some of you may know, two weeks ago I went on a residency to Grand Marais, Minnesota with 16 other artists that completely changed my life. It was unreal, so fun, and spent surrounded by beautiful wildlife and wildly creative talents from all over the country that I can now happily call my friends. Today! okay so im going to cheat on my own theme….IM SORRY OKAY?!!? sheesh!
I’ve been really busy (blah blah blah havent we all) and this is something i reorganized from an earlier creation…..sorry again for the cheating. I PROMISE i wont cheat on the next theme…to be revealed as soon as one of us submits oooo!!
for now here is a cluster of farm objects. these are from an image that was reeeejected from someone i was working with…which is a bummer because I kind of liked it. That is why i love pen pals :)

I work alone in the quiet of my studio. Outside from time to time, but the wind drives me back inside. It may seem odd, but I find the quiet very calming. It flows over you and you can hear your deep breaths and brush strokes. You can see the thick coffee steam and the creeks of the swaying house. I have a wooden bear who sits beside me as i work. he has no name and stands as tall as my thumb as he looks slightly to the right at me. When i drew this piece this afternoon, I was extremely tired. So much so that I resorted to drawing in the hammock while fleet foxes played in the breeze. This explains his apparent exhaustion. I also have often imagined him with a rug on his back. Usually persian, but today i was feeling something more native.

Life Magazine has a tumblr. it’s a beautiful thing. not that i needed anything else to waste time on during the day…sometimes its hard to stay focused when you’re freelance. I stumbled across this photograph of a woman fly fishing from the 70s Life magazines and she looked so fashionable in her fishing gear. It reminded me of my little sister Kirby who is very much the same. tomboy stylish but girly enough to the core. thats my contemporary cowgirl. timeless and flyfishing ready. — better late than never!
